I was told I’d have to get up early to catch a selected group of balloonists taking to the air before first light.
With the lure of a free breakfast for the first 2000 spectators filed through to collect their freebies while in the background the first few balloons were being inflated.
As each balloon was inflated and took to the sky it started to look like floating candles. This was the first time that I had seen this with my own eyes so seeing it thought the eyes of a camera just didn’t do it any justice.
This video shows a selection of the “Dawn Patrol” balloons filling and then taking off.
