This weekend hosted one of the Air Force’s most spectacular events.

This weekend Whenuapai opened its gates to thousands of aviation enthusiasts. They came for some aviation entertainment and that is just what was delivered.

“I’ve come here to see the big planes fly, the war birds are cool but we can see them at just about every other air show in the country it’s the US Air forces C-17 Globe master we want to see” said Mark Wilson a local aviation enthusiast.

Mark like many other photographers lined the barriers to get the perfect shot that they could take home and mount on their wall.

“If I get at least one photo out of all the photos that I take today I’ll be happy” Mark said.

The newly converted 757′s were on display giving visitors the opportunity to climb aboard. For some people it was the first time they had stepped foot onto an aircraft. Wile the kids enjoyed the experience it was the parents who seemed to enjoy it more.

“It’s not everyday you get to take your kids to events like this, it’s a good way to get them excited and to work harder at school to achieve their dream of being a pilot” said one parent who was following his two girls.

The hangers were filled with recruiting information and educational displays about the aircraft on display outside.
