The crew of an Aerolineas Argentinas A340 landed their aircraft safely at Auckland International Airport last night just before 2230h (1030pm) after shutting down an engine.

Emergency services were called to standby as part of the airports emergency procedures but where not required.

“The flight, due to arrive at 10.15pm with 229 persons on board, landed safely without incident at about 10.24pm” said Inspector Turepu Keenan from Northern Communications Centre.

An A340 has four engines and is able to fly safely with only three running.
