Fly Direct goes into liquidation.

[3 June 2010] [2,064 views] [3 Comments]

The start up company Fly Direct Limited has been placed into liquidation before it even started.  The company had plans to market direct flights from Christchurch to Wanaka over the coming ski season.

Their website was closed down and a message was posted to advise customers of their demise.

“We regret to advise that Fly Direct Ltd was placed into liquidation at 12pm on Tuesday June 2. The liquidators are Waterstone Insolvency…”

The website reported that around 500 people had signed up for packages offered by the company whom will most likely be out of pocket.

Jeffery James Key is listed as the companies sole director and wasn’t available for comment.

This is a typical business scam !

I am the victim of the scam. I booked the package at the night of 31 May 2010. On 1 June 2010, they are till opening for booking when they had planned to put the company into liquidation !

I also booked the night of 31 May 2010…payment did not fully go through until 2 June 2010, yet the liquidators were appointed on 1 June 2010. What a scam through and through. I am now $1548 out of pocket.

They were heavily advertising up until midnight 31 May 2010 and had also been misleading the public through other media news articles by saying support so far had been strong (which is why on 5 May 2010 FlyDirect also increased the capacity of flights from Wellington).

These are clear breaches of the Fair Trading Act (misleading conduct). I am complaining to the Commerce Commission at the minimum.

When will NZ consumers WAKE UP and realise this is a self-regulated deregulated market where only you can save yourself no matter what you buy or invest in – and forget the courts and lawyers as that process will bury you in debt or take the rest of your money off you as well – We are not in USA. Stop complaining and harden up. The same goes for complaints about immigration, sensitive cultural issues, and so on….the Government does not care and cannot do a thing – and if it could the penalty is so small that commercial operators dont care – consumers are the suckers in NZ.
