Life insurance for pilots drops in cost.

[8 September 2010] [1,035 views] [One Comment]

Online insurance broker LifeDirect.co.nz has welcomed the move by New Zealand life insurer ING Life to offer “standard premium rates” to Commercial Pilots and Aircrew for both life and trauma insurance.

ING’s cost reduction extends to Airline and commercial pilots and flight crew of fixed wing and rotary aircraft (including agricultural, crop dusting/spraying, freight, passenger transport, surveying, towing, training, fire services, search and rescue etc).

Previously Pilots and Crew had faced large cost increases with mainstream life insurers, resulting in premiums significantly higher than those paid by most people. “These premiums increases are unfair in our view – particularly when you consider the actual risks involved in flying and the fact that Licence requirements mean that Pilots are often in much better health than the general population. There are people out there paying way too much for their insurance. So it’s great to see an insurer recognise this and cut rates so dramatically.” said Conor Sligo, Director of LifeDirect.co.nz.
