Tauranga aviation company, Adventure Aviation, will bring a slice of aviation and television history to the skies above Mystery Creek Events Centre 9-11 October as part of New Zealand’s inaugural Aviation Expo, AVEX.

One of the star attractions at AVEX will be Adventure Aviation’s M.A.S.H helicopter, a Bell 47 Sioux chopper from the Korean War era that will be familiar to many from the long-running TV series M.A.S.H.

Adventure Aviation owner and pilot, Phill Hooker, is confirmed as part of the event, which will provide him with the opportunity to showcase the M.A.S.H helicopter to a new audience and will offer scenic flights over the AVEX event and Waikato surrounds. The M.A.S.H helicopter is just one of the aviation jewels in his unique aircraft collection which includes a Bell Ranger helicopter, Grumman AG Cat, Boeing Stearman, and CT4 Airtrainer.

AVEX Chairman, Wayne Green, says that AVEX will showcase and celebrate the aviation industry in New Zealand with a focus on cutting edge technology and innovation being developed and driven into the skies from New Zealand based companies. “In the same way that the New Zealand National Agricultural Fieldays is the premier forum for New Zealand agriculture, AVEX is set to become the number one aviation information, networking and buying forum for visitors from New Zealand and overseas,” he says.

The M.A.S.H helicopter will be joined by its military successors - the workhouse Iroquois and Seasprite helicopters from the RNZAF.

AVEX will be held at Mystery Creek Events Centre, south of Hamilton, from 9-11 October 2008. The event is a trade expo, designed to drive awareness and sales of New Zealand aviation and aerospace technology and innovation to potential local and international buyers. Gates open daily from 9am – 5pm and admission is free. For more information visit www.avex.co.nz.
