Volunteers restore the Bristol Freighter at Founders Heritage Park

Former aviation engineer John Kelly and retired pilot Roy West have been generously donating their time, expertise, and workshop premises to help refurbish the Bristol Freighter at Founders Heritage Park.

The Bristol Freighter Merchant Buccaneer landed in Nelson on the Wakapuaka mudflats in 1986 and was towed to Founders Heritage Park. It is one of four remaining in New Zealand and has been a favourite of visitors to the park since its installation in 1986. The wonderful Friends of Founders (who bring us the Founders Annual Bookfair) started the initiative to refurbish the aircraft and have generously funded this project.
