Wanganui Aero Day 2026
On Sunday, 18 January 2026, Whanganui Airport will host the much‑anticipated Wanganui Aero Day, a highlight of the Whanganui Vintage Weekend that brings together aviation history, thrilling joyrides, and plenty of family-friendly fun.
Organised by the Wanganui Aero Club, the event will feature over 50 aircraft, including home-built light planes, classic biplanes, and ex-military jets and warbirds. Two flying display sessions are scheduled for midday and afternoon, showcasing iconic aircraft such as the De Havilland Venom, BAC Strikemaster, FG‑1D Corsair, Tiger Moth, Chipmunk, and the aerobatic Pitts Special.
For those seeking a more immersive experience, Aero Day will offer scenic flights, 30-minute city-to-coast tours aboard the historic Air Chathams DC‑3, as well as warbird joyrides in the Piper Tomahawk, De Havilland Tiger Moth, or Harvard.
The day runs from 9 am to 4 pm, and attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair to enjoy picnics while watching the skies. A BBQ, coffee van, ice cream, and other refreshments will be available onsite.
Parking is well-organised, with a one-way loop system and a shuttle service operating from Whanganui Racecourse and Trafalgar Square, with a small donation supporting local charities.
Tickets cost $15 for adults, with children admitted free. More than just an airshow, Wanganui Aero Day is a celebration of New Zealand’s aviation community, powered by passionate pilots and aircraft owners sharing their love of flight.
