Boeing Acquires Electronic Flight Bag Provider, OzRunways

Continuing its strategic expansion into the aviation software realm, Boeing has announced its acquisition of OzRunways, a prominent electronic flight bag (EFB) provider based in Australia. The move is expected to bolster Boeing’s digital aviation solutions, particularly in enhancing the capabilities of its subsidiary, ForeFlight.

OzRunways, renowned for its intuitive and pilot-centric design approach, will now operate under the umbrella of ForeFlight, another Boeing-owned company. This collaboration aims to amalgamate expertise and resources, ultimately benefiting pilots globally with advanced applications tailored for flight planning and navigation.

“We are thrilled to merge with the ForeFlight team, aligning our shared commitment to innovation,” remarked Bas Scheffers, co-founder and CEO of OzRunways. The integration is poised to elevate the suite of offerings available to aviation enthusiasts and professionals alike.

ForeFlight’s recent foray into the Australian market, marked by certification from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) as a data service provider, underscores Boeing’s concerted efforts to expand its footprint globally. This expansion includes strategic acquisitions such as CloudAhoy, a US-based flight debriefing software provider, which further enhances ForeFlight’s post-flight analysis capabilities.

“Our focus remains steadfast in providing comprehensive solutions to pilots and flight departments worldwide,” affirmed Tim Schuetze, CEO of ForeFlight. The acquisition of OzRunways aligns seamlessly with Boeing’s overarching mission to deliver cutting-edge digital products and services across all facets of aviation.

Established in 2007, ForeFlight has earned trust as a provider of advanced integrated software for general, business, and military aviation clients globally. Meanwhile, OzRunways boasts a diverse customer base spanning Australia, New Zealand, and Latin America, offering CASR Part 175-approved EFB software tailored for various aviation needs.

While the financial details of the acquisition remain undisclosed, the move signals Boeing’s commitment to innovation and its dedication to meeting the evolving needs of the aviation community.

Boeing’s Digital Aviation Solutions business continues to spearhead advancements in the aviation technology sector, cementing its position as a leader in the digital transformation of the industry.
