The largest new addition to Air New Zealand’s fleet made a flying visit to the Capital on Wednesday when the airline gave the Wellingtonians a preview of their new 777-300.

Air New Zealand’s striking new all black A320 aircraft will touch down at Auckland airport for the first time this afternoon, marking the start of a revolution in the airline’s domestic jet service.

Air New Zealand’s first Boeing 777-300ER aircraft has been delivered in Seattle, USA and will touch down in Auckland on Christmas Eve morning, bringing the Kiwi designed economy Skycouch to New Zealand for the first time.

Boeing, Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance and Air New Zealand today said an agreement has been signed to expand the airline’s use of the 777 Component Services Program (CSP), offered jointly by Boeing and Air France Industries KLM Engineering and Maintenance.

Christchurch International Airport Limited (CIAL) has advised the airport will remain closed until at least 1pm.

Anyone travelling between Tauranga and Christchurch and between Invercargill and Wellington are set to get a large boost in capacity.

Wellington Airport has submitted to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) on the Air New Zealand / Virgin Tasman alliance outlining its concerns about the potential impacts on competition and the Wellington economy.

Christchurch Airport emergency services were put on alert this morning after a small passenger plane was struck by lightning.

When you think about commercial airline careers you think about pilots and maintenance but there is another aspect of flying that isn’t mentioned as much.

Airspace around the UK and Europe remains closed to all carriers. As a result, Air New Zealand continues to strongly advise passengers with travel plans to affected parts of the UK and Europe to NOT commence their travel today.
